How does a political journalist listen to Wes fucking Streeting talk about how Labour values ensure good outcomes & not think to ask him whether he still believes that "every day, we should drag a sacred cow of our party to the town marketplace & slaughter it until we are up to our knees in blood"?

I don't even know where to start with the circularity of "Labour has the right answers because it has the right values". I don't know how to deal with a political journalist who apparently doesn't know anything about Palantir. I just want them all to fuck off

Which reminds me, there's a Very Short Introduction to Entropy forthcoming in the series. Well, it started out very short. They're not actually sure how long it is at this point. Also it might not be just one book anymore. Anyway, watch out for it

If you think ‘fake news’, political manipulation and people being driven to extremism are a new phenomenon that has arisen only through social media, let me introduce you to the tabloid press.

Wearing glasses for the first time this evening. Fairly modest prescription for distance sight, mostly in one eye. 21 months sober today but walking along the street feeling drunk, sense of space is all out of whack 😅 Still, already I wonder what I was doing without them.

I was thinking this at the time! The media were simultaneously full of stories about the massive generational divide in politics *and* the Tory party's long war om old people (which started under the coalition) & I remember being incredulous that they were killing off their voters like that.

Screenshot of my timeline. Two posts. The top post is from Dan Davies, and says "Always nervous about personality cults in banking tbh..."
The bottom post is from jana and says "nothing can stop me from going jana mode"
Scrolling down my feed I thought for a moment Dan was quoting you

View across a crossroads on Beacon Hill looking towards the back of the Massachusetts State House.
44 Joy Street, a grey stone apartment building with two arched doorways with carved wreath like patterns above the doors. Autumn leaves strewn along the pavement in front.
A side view of 44 Joy Street that also includes the red brick building next door, the Museum of African American History, which occupies the site of the African Meeting House and Abiel Smith School, built in the early 1800s. The photo allows you to see more clearly the position of these buildings on a slope that, out of frame, leads down to Cambridge Street.
A couple of years ago I had the opportunity to make a little pilgrimage to Beacon Hill & see 44 Joy Street, where Wieners lived, & appreciate how close it is to the State Capitol, aka the Massachusetts State House.
