Duolingo #Yiddish continues to offer incredibly useful conversational phrases. (But, I mean, what ARE the Lithuanians celebrating today?)

Turns out prairie dogs are even MORE important than we previously realized for supporting healthy grassland communities. All it took was an RC taxidermied badger to find out. (Read the thread to see a picture of said wonder).

I’m reading the Joe Taylor biography and am enjoying figuring out old bird names, such as Man O’ War bird (Magnificent Frigatebird) and Darby Flycatcher (Great Kiskadee). Figuring out “New Mexican Duck” sent me to the 1946 archives of The Auk. Bird names change. People adapt. #BirdNamesForBirds

Haha - while I can understand this, too, it turns out that it is way less useful in conversation in southern Arizona.

My Duolingo Yiddish has progressed enough that this morning I was able to ask the feral cat in my back yard, “Do you come here often, my cat?” (She meowed at me in response.)
