By this I mean that many Americans are raised with no concept of community outside of religious communities and family, and end up recreating not just the white meritocracy belief system but also the belief that all their “sins” can be forgiven with hard work, including of abandoning others.

I was never a huge fan of his music, but I'm now a super fan of the person.
