Very true, but it flies in the face of an upbringing of people pleasing as a measure of personal value, leading to approval addiction & inherent low self worth. 'If someone doesn't like me, it must be my fault & I need to find out why, and adjust.' Hard tracks to get out of.

It is quite incredible just how polarised society is, or at least the vocal members of it... 🤦😔

Self-stigmatisation is also problematic for those diagnosed with BPD. I have a friend who completely fell apart after the diagnosis because of how negative the perceptions of it are within the medical community. Knowing how to support someone to stay positive after diagnosis is a real help...

Sorry to hear. Crap days really do overshadow the rest at times. Hope there is a distraction that can keep the blackness at bay...

Pop psychology is most definitely not immune to short-sighted fads. And it's incredible how quickly those that think critically & advise caution get labelled negatively. Even if there are benefits, very few look into the long-term affects/potential problems until well after the craze has taken hold

The catch 22 is that you've got to be open to the idea of seeing the manipulation, which is quite unlikely when you're deeply entrenched in the confirmation bubble.
The BITE model is brilliant & an excellent way to understand your experiences in hindsight once you're out, which is very therapeutic.

One of the key tactics of cults/high control religions is that we lose our individual identities so we can entirely focus on & fill the needs of the group. Having never had the chance to acknowledge, understand or develop our sense of 'self', it's a mountain to climb after decades of conditioning. 🤯

It's a bit of a stretch to say 'scholars'. It's a 'white paper', not peer reviewed. The references are minimal, very old & also not peer reviewed. Not much different to what jws would publish in their watchtower magazine - cherry picking favourable opinion of a couple of professors. Easily debunked.

Only getting one side of the story and completely dismissing, discrediting and attacking negative viewpoints seems to be all the rage. Who knew that religion had an authoritarian bent? Oh wait, religion is where this mindset started, and has been maintained for centuries.
