Panino con polpo at number 3 invalidates everything about this list. Come on.

Is it weird that what bugs me most about this is the “96 years” claim? Like, Pat opened a hot dog stand in 1930, but didn’t start making steaks until a few years later, and didn’t add cheese until the 50s. (But they’re totally celebrating 100 years of the cheesesteak in 2030.)

I am of course, as the history geek, annoyed that @phillyinqfood.bsky.social confidently states that Pat’s has been making steaks for “96 years,” even though a peruse through their own archives would prove steaks weren’t made until 1932 at the very earliest. 🤓🤣

Anyway hope you enjoy the book!

Interesting how things like whiz, apparently peppers & mushrooms, and now seeded rolls all came about because a younger generation wanted to try something new. I’m also blown away by Frank basically admitting they’ll ditch American and just serve Cooper going forward (even if a good biz decision). 👇

The Ever-Evolving Cheese Steak - Edible Philly A smorgasbord of innovation and rule-breaking

Hearing about how Pat’s is now selling steaks with seeded rolls is a perfect way to introduce my article about how cheesesteaks in Philly have always been evolving, since day one, and will always continue to evolve. ediblephilly.ediblecommunities.com/eat/the-ever...

I’m particularly blown away by the fact that “old money” means one can afford £20 wine

There’s an off repeated comment that the first pancake is always bad… but here’s what I don’t understand… are you people really cooking only one pancake at a time? How long does it take to cook breakfast!?!?

I think the prevailing theory is that Deadpool and Wolverine rebooted them

So stupid. The other thing I don’t get is, don’t these people know about climate change? Like, why would you ever bank on one grape when things are changing so quickly?

Seems weird it wasn’t created in Fla.

One thing the curling discourse has highlighted is how many English speakers call it “bocce ball.”

Meanwhile, on Threads, people post stuff like: “what’s a good wine?”

Not so much wine, but definitely beer and Drambuie.

Some of you would enjoy A History of Philadelphia Sandwiches by @lifeattable.bsky.social which I reviewed for Broad Street Review last year:

Also @marksquires.com, fun fact: there is a woman who grew up playing at the Philadelphia Curling Club (in Paoli) on the US women’s team this year. I often curled with her dad.

Here it is most popular in Minnesota, so probably more of a Polish or Central European thing 🤓

The doubles team that won worlds did gain a lot of fame within Italy though, so that should grow the sport.

The Italians have developed a high quality curling program at the international level, but as far as I know curling is still very minor there. As in, they have a few high performance athletes with some money behind them, but curling is not a particularly popular sport overall.

No, you will not see me in the next Olympics. The ice is different than hockey ice. Yes, PEDs would help. No, having "hammer" is not like a hockey power play. In doubles a power play moves the starting stones. Scoring is like bocce. Of course it's cold, it's ice. You could die. (HT Troy.)

The answers to all your curling questions are: Yes, everybody takes a turn throwing. No, the rock slides. 42 pounds. 4 people on a team. (2 in doubles.) Sweeping makes it go further or curl more/less. Special shoes, one has teflon on the bottom. 👇

I'm hardly the first person to note this, but it's enormously instructive that our President and his followers saw the message "THE ONLY THING MORE POWERFUL THAN HATE IS LOVE" and understood it, correctly, as an attack on them

Yeah I need to write something about this too. Estate winemakers are not happy about things as they stand.
