IMO though, GOs as SECDEF would probably serve as "friction" to implementation of the whims of trump. They wouldn't just act as yes men and just move out. Hegseth is that guy. He doesn't question anything and is too stupid to know better.

There has to numerous 4 Star GO / Adm who are supporters of his and could easily step into the job. The Hegseth hire was 100% about "optics" and loyalty. Not competence.
