#Stetwalk (is that still a hashtag?) before starting my #editing day to see the cherry blossoms blooming here in Toronto at High Park.

I am so lucky that this beauty is a walk from my home!

If you didn't know Italian to check, you wouldn't know you were sending inconsistent/incorrect text.
Carry on, human #translators, carry on.

I thought I would test DeepL by having it #translate an English email message into #Italian. The result referred to my recipient in both the singular "tu" forms and the plural "voi" forms. 1/2

Good news: what you describe in your post is correct style according to Chicago Manual 17, and the new Chicago Manual 18 has completely done away with including place of publication.

Yes, my dear friend and colleague @heurtebiseange.bsky.social and I have a coauthored/coedited book at press! I am grateful for all the work he has done as main volume editor. More details to follow soon.

It's certainly not life shattering, and people still understand what it means! Just to make the point that multilingual products and texts should ideally be reviewed by someone knowledgeable in both the source and target languages. 3/3

Granted, someone pointed out "biscottis" is commonly used in French, and this is EN-FR packaging for Canada. But it still grates on my English and Italian ear. Ideally "biscotti" for EN and "biscottis" for FR should both be included, IMO. 2/3

I posted this on LI, suggesting the hypercorrection of adding -s- on an already plural #Italian word commonly used in English should have been reviewed before production, and--wow--do people have opinions on it both ways! 1/3

#amediting #writingtips #wordbans | Erin Brenner Last week, β€œThe New York Times” (https://zurl.co/ZeQdz) gathered and published a list of words banned from government websites and the documents. Words like…

"Women." "Historically." "Belong." Just a few words now banned from federal documents. As writers and editors, do we self-censor preemptively or resist? My latest on navigating word bans while maintaining both principles and pragmatism: zurl.co/c5CID

Hi there! I'm dipping my toes in here, trying to follow the #editors, #academics, and #publishers that I used to follow in that other place. Hoping to recreate a same great community of sharing information and mutual support that we had way back when. Still figuring out how this works - stay tuned!
