Then change the background back to black. PERFECT. No AI, no cloud processing, just local processing and Sea Otter Intelligence.

I create my text in futura condensed bold italic font, and drop it in, then adjust the "frame" to fit the text. I typically change the grey background to black, but there is so much black already I need to add an outline (back to grey while I do that!)

Then I draw in the more subtle parts. Rather than dealing with absolute contrast, I get to draw in and decide what bits go black or white relative to parts next to it. AI sucks at this because it doesn't actually think. Bow now I've dropped my "frame" in front of everything.

Now I create a new layer, and use bucket fill of black on most of the black parts, so I can edit out some parts, then I hide the original two-tone layer. So I bring the layer with the grey still in it up front, and make it 50% transparent, then create a new layer on top of that. Now the fun begins!

Then I take this edited layer and desaturate it (remove all color). I save this layer and duplicate it because I will use it later. Then on the new duplicated layer I adjust levels to push all grey tones to either pure black or pure white.

Okay! Now I erase the background of the now cropped picture by paw, and selectively edit out things I do not like by color matching and using a simple marker tool, like the microphone!Then use an airbrush tool to blend the blocks of color together better so it fades as needed.
