4/ 🏳️‍⚧️🔍 @outrightintl.bsky.social is conducting an ongoing research project aiming to provide a global overview of the situation of trans people in detention, with a particular focus on the applicable laws and policies.

3/ 🏢🔒 In prisons, immigration detention centres, and other closed institutions worldwide, trans people are too often denied legal recognition, safe housing and gender-affirming care. Too many are held in facilities that do not align with their gender identity, increasing their risk of harm.

2/ Around the world, trans people in detention face complex challenges and atrocities.Across countries, places of detention broadly fail not only to meet the basic needs of trans people in detention but also to protect them from violence and abuse.

6/ 🏳️‍⚧️✊🏻✊🏿✊🏽 We welcome open and respectful dialogue with UK government leaders, civil society, and communities to ensure that trans voices are heard in all areas of public life and policy development.

5/ This includes, for instance, the National Health Service (NHS) reforms and a research programme to provide puberty blockers. Unfortunately, these actions do not address the systemic problems in the UK that enable anti-trans violence.

4/ 📬 In July, the Minister for Equalities responded to TGEU, highlighting a range of actions being taken by the UK government to protect trans people.

3/ We expressed our concerns about the overall climate on the rights of trans people in the UK, including:

🗣️ the souring of public discourse,
💢 increase in hate crimes,
🏥 rollbacks on access to healthcare, and
📚 attacks on inclusive education policies.

2/🧑🏽‍⚖️ In May, we wrote a letter to the UK’s Prime Minister and Minister for Equalities following the Supreme Court decision in For Women Scotland, on behalf of our membership.

🏳️‍⚧️ Over 100,000 people joined London Trans+ Pride this weekend, making it the largest ever trans rights march in the world.

TGEU is part of this movement for trans justice by holding UK leaders accountable.

- A group of at least 3 people in the core organising team
- Based in an EU country
- Experienced in organising large events, including securing funding
- Ready to host the Council in 2026

♿ Ensure the event is fully accessible & affordable for participants
🎉 Work closely with TGEU staff & board throughout the process

7/ 🤝🏽 TGEU is proud to share that the 2025 UN Trans Advocacy Week in Geneva reaffirmed the power of collective, cross-sectoral advocacy for trans rights at the highest level.

6/ 🎬 This year, organisers continued integrating social and art-based elements into the programme. A closed screening of the Malaysian documentary ‘Queer as Punk’ was held at a local theatre, followed by a panel where trans activists discussed the role of art in resistance.

5/ 🗣️ During the week, trans human rights defenders participated in interactive dialogues with special rapporteurs, prepared statements, and networked. With every international policymaker they met, trans activists shared stories from their communities.

4/ ✨ A major highlight was a jointly organised side event in the Palais des Nations titled: Defunding Equality: The Global Impact of Aid Cuts on Trans Rights and the Path Forward.

3/ 🏳️‍⚧️ This year’s theme focused on the urgent need to protect democratic spaces amid the rise of anti-gender movements, especially in the face of alarming cuts in global funding for human rights work.

2/ In June 2025, over 15 activists gathered in 🇨🇭 Geneva for the UN Trans Advocacy Week, held alongside the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council. Trans and gender-diverse activists came from Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Central Asia.
