Court Strikes Down Key Part of Trump’s Unlawful Voting Executive Order, Permanently Blocking Show-Your-Papers Requirement The decision grants summary judgment to the plaintiffs, finding that the president lacks the authority to unilaterally alter election procedures β€” powers that rest with Congress and the states.

On Friday, a federal district court made permanent its preliminary order blocking President Trump’s unlawful mandate to require a passport or similar document with the federal voter registration form. 1/4

This is a remarkable article. Federal judges are increasingly speaking out against SCOTUS’s approach to the shadow docket. This isn't typical & underscores the impossible position for lower courts when SCOTUS makes new law on its emergency docket – especially when it doesn’t explain its rulings. /1

Opinion | Trump’s Stunning Power Grab on Elections

@bartongellman.bsky.social in @nytopinion.nytimes.com: β€œThere are reasons to hope Mr. Trump will fail to subvert next year’s midterms. Election officials of both parties have by and large withstood years of relentless threats, violence and disinformation.”

Supreme Court Must Explain Why It Keeps Ruling in Trump’s Favor The Court has repeatedly halted lower court orders and allowed administration policies to go forward via its β€œshadow docket” without any explanation.

After judges from across the political spectrum found that Trump administration policies were likely illegal or unconstitutional, the Supreme Court has frequently reinstated those policies without any explanation. bit.ly/4mzvX0p

Preventing Woke AI in the Federal Government By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered: Section 1.Β  Purpose.

1/ Yesterday, the Trump administration announced its AI Action Plan - a pillar of which is an executive order that vows to end federal procurement of β€œwoke AI.” The order would not only chill speech but also make the technology more unreliable and untrustworthy.

BIG WIN: A federal court just blocked key parts of Trump's executive order on voting purporting to require a passport or similar doc to register to vote. This was a huge & dangerous power grab-presidents don't get to rewrite election rules. And it could have thwarted millions of eligible Americans.

There are a lot of busy lawyers out there. Trump doesn't just issue an EO & that's it. There will be challenges, some of them lengthy, over legality & constitutionality. The Supreme Court gave him immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts, not omnipotence.

Talk of rescinding birthright citizenship is just that: Talk.

Presidents can't rescind it, because the Constitution expressly guarantees it. The Constitution's text reflects a basic American principle: Being born here comes with citizenship. Any executive order won't survive the court fights.
