Hate hate hate the reduction of Ghibli's output into a vague aesthetic. Even before generative AI, people would talk about "cozy Ghibli vibes" stripped of all context, and now we're seeing where that gets us.

Exactly. This matters a lot when doing slow burn horror but players don’t want to stay long in a boring gray box before the game picks up

I’m finding now that doing a narrative horror game doesn’t mix well with my past “get it running and send to testers asap” mentality.

Sure, I can give players a gray box level with some temp dialogue but they won’t get a lot from that experience. It maybe validates a few systems early at most

Still early but we’re working on a horror game that forces you to work late nights at a haunted corporate office while supernatural forces slowly take over your workspace. You also get a coding ducky.

Another GDC down! This was my third one and it was the best of the bunch. Talked to so many skilled and thoughtful people and felt so connected to the game dev community. It truly is something special every single time.

For those evacuating with pets in LA: Hilton’s Homewood Suites, Home2 Suites, Embassy Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton, Tru and Canopy brands are all 100% pet friendly. Even cats! And a lot of hotels are waiving pet fees atm. Good on u Hilton! Pun intended: that’s hot.

Gonna spend the first quarter of 2025 on polish, bug fixing, and adding new content. I’m sure plenty of features are subject to change (I’m even considering a new art style) but the base is there. Still a lot left to do though!

So I set a goal a few months back to finish out all the core features of my small game within three months. And I’m happy to say that I did it! It’s still buggy and things need polish, but I managed to get all 29 of the main features done between September and December. Proud to have done it!
