It sounds hacky the first time(s?) you hear it. But discipline absolutely is more helpful than motivation. I'm not motivated to go to the gym 6 days a week. But my discipline gets me there on the days I'm not motivated (and it's plenty.) i walk to the gym when is -5°. That's not motivation.
