Our github Repo for the Mothbox is getting pretty big: github.com/Digital-Natu...

it has the Hardware, Firmware, Documentation Website, and Post Processing Software all on there.

This is nice for us as i can send a single pointer to folks about the Mothbox. But should i organize it different?

This one is 30 seconds of bird song played back at each test location using the standard @openacousticdevices.info AudioMoth firmware with GPS synchronisation. This one has a couple of test points with additional background noise (a real bird).

Yes, once you have a position estimate you can mix the individual recordings together with the correct offset to improve the signal to noise ratio. Lots more uncertainty when the AudioMoths don't surround the sound source.

You can definitely put the AudioMoth in a row and do the same calculation. You get long drawn out position estimates as the angular estimate is good but the range is more uncertain.

We’re building some software tools to try to automate a lot of the processing and image generation.

Depends on the accuracy required really. We use two RTK GPS receivers which give relative positions within a few centimetres. Regular GPS is probably a few metres. Picking locations from Google Earth works pretty well. Can also measure distances between all points and calculate locations.

day 2 saw the completion of the alex’s audiomoth instalment, with 72 both near and away from beaver wetlands and control ponds, recording birds and bats mostly!

also featuring a moose salt lick and a jump in the lake after some hard work

The first commercial release of Altair BASIC (Version 2.0) came out fifty years ago (1st July 1975). Amazingly, a paper tape copy has just resurfaced @devilishdesign.bsky.social. It runs perfectly on my AudioMoth Altair 8800 simulator. github.com/AlexRogersCS...

Going through some old paper tapes and found this. It's version 2 of Microsoft BASIC from 1975. Version 1 was never released to the public which makes this Microsoft's first commercial product and it's not been archived anywhere! Time to break out my tape reader... πŸ™‚

Any kind of underwater sound recording equipment is good. An Aquarian H2a, HydroMoth, or GoPro Hero are popular options. Recording in a field tank is best, individual clips from soundscape recordings are OK if you can have a good guess at the family level.

Depends on your application. They are noisier than many recorders but more flexible. They are intended for biodiversity monitoring where the quality of recordings is less of a priority. Higher quality and more expensive recorders are available.

The AudioMoth and AudioMoth USB Microphone will record to 384 kHz. You can plug in external hydrophones that use plug-in-power, such as the Aquarian H2dM, and use AudioMoth-Live on a laptop to view and record. www.openacousticdevices.info/live
