While I agree with much of what Stephen Bush argues here, I think this claim is overly simplistic: "This shouldn’t need saying in 2025 but markets and globalisation are good."

I just finished reading Sven Beckert's history of the development of the global cotton industry. It's a bit repetitive in its main theses, and sometimes a bit of a slog, but well worth reading for those interested in the history of trade and industrial policy.

NEW STUDY: How much CO2 can we safely store in geological formations?
In a new @nature.com study, we cross-check established academic and industry estimates with various risk factors.
We find a prudent geological CO2 storage limit that is about 10x smaller. /1

China is simply not going to quit, and that's going to draw most of the world into their supply chain and eventually strategic sphere. By rejecting energy decarbonization, the US is simply pushing most of the world into China's sphere, and away from themselves. 4/n

These individuals are foreign persons who directly engaged in efforts by the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute nationals of the United States or Israel, without the consent of either nation. The United States has been clear and steadfast in our opposition to the ICC's politicization, abuse of power, disregard for our national sovereignty, and illegitimate judicial overreach. The Court is a national security threat that has been an instrument for lawfare against the United States and our close ally Israel. It remains the policy of the United States Government to take whatever actions we deem necessary to protect our troops, our sovereignty, and our allies from the ICC's illegitimate and baseless actions. I urge countries that still support the ICC, many of whose freedom was purchased at the price of great American sacrifices, to resist the claims of this bankrupt institution. All targets are being designated pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 14203. For more information on today's actions, please see the Department of State's Fact Sheet. The geopolitical alignments of the 21st century are shaping up to be petrostates versus the electrostates.
The U.S. and Russia are presently aligned on one side, and China and the E.U. are leading the other side along with most low-carbon “emerging” economies.
Ojalá tengas razón y los incentivos electorales a corto plazo no dejen la mitigación en los huesos.
