I reached out to the always-amazing @victoriastrauss.com, who said Writer Beware is "hearing from quite a number of authors who are being impersonated by this type of scam (the goal is to engage the target with friendly outreach and then steer them to a shady marketing service)." 🫠

My stories tend to mix magic, mystery, and romance, with plenty of slow-burn tension and emotional depth. But I’m not here just to talk about my books. I’ve started reaching out because I truly love connecting with other authors and creators. Highly recommend #RevPit! I participated in—I think 2017?—as a brand-new writer querying LIAR CITY.

It wasn’t chosen, but it made two editors’ final rounds & they both gave personalized feedback. Such an encouraging experience & confidence booster (esp. when trying to query an unusual queer UF!).

Star Trek The Original Series scene. We're on a planet (Class M, yo!) It's rocky and dirty bouldery on the surface with blue screen background. And there's fighting! Three starfleet officers are hiding/crouching behind boulders with their back to us, while further off and away there are four or five "other" aliens in opposition. The "others" are also humanoid, at this distance kind of looks like cavemen but are probably just hairy, and they're in various states of attack. One is leaping off a rock mid air, others have hands in air midway through throwing rocks towards #TeamStarfleet. Closed captions are placed in various spots on screen to indicate shouts from different places, like in the old Batman episodes with the POW! and WHAMMY! and KERPLOWSERS! Captions read, "AAH!" "GRRR!" "YAAH!"

The irony here too, that Dav Pilkey is open about his ADHD and dyslexia and how his struggles in school inspired him to write books like Captain Underpants for reluctant readers and children who might face similar hurdles.

You know. Hurdles like their favorite books being limited as "dessert." 😑
