Max; "Morning Time"
Sinead O'Connor on backing vocals.
I had no idea when I first heard the demo of this in 1990 that I had something of a rarity on my hands.

I was given a copy of a demo cassette of this band in 1990 (previously known as Angel Whale).
I was but an impressionable youth, signed to a producer who worked with Trevor Horn.
I had no idea until recently that the song/album was released.
Still good...

Not a major fan of this band, I only know a few of their songs.
The song popped into my head at 8am when I had to rewash an item of clothing in the washing machine.
For the past 3 hours it's been playing on my neural radio.
I quite like it.π

Loch Voil, Perthshire, Scotland, looking east.
In 2 days' time the Brown Trout fishing season starts and therefore my diet improves exponentially.
Mirror Box.
Between Lochs Voil and Doine, Perthshire/Stirling County, Scotland.
Lovely shot.
I could do with a bit of North Sea air and the best fish and chips in the entire UK.
Minor success with today's surgery.
90% there, so I may need to refer the patient to a consultant.
I suppose that comes with growing up in 'Gen Subculture'.
If you liked one thing, you could openly like anything different.
I've gone through all that again in recent years post late ASD diagnosis, working out what I liked in all areas vs what I liked to fit in.
Conclusion: I belong in the 1920/30s
Nice find.
My best pal and I played S&G covers at the school folk club from the age of 12.
It was like a musical dirty secret to like them (and John Denver), so my first record token album/own money was SLF's Inflammable Material.
I hid my S&G and JD tapes from my other pals.
Some great songs in there written by some of the best around.
My parents weren't into music, they had about 6 LPs between them, so I had to wait till I was 12 before I had money for records.
Even then it was Christmas and Birthday record tokens from my mother's siblings who all were music obsessed.
"The Scent of Water" (pub 1975) a collection of Folk Tales by Carl MacDougall.
Illustrated by Alasdair Gray #GrayDay.
Carl was a close friend and mentor to me for 15 years up until his death in 2023.
He introduced me to Alasdair on a couple of occasions.
Resetting a guitar neck; a first on this one since buying it in 2017.
The Luthier's stamp shows it was still being assembled in Quebec in Feb '17.
I bought it a month earlier (January) but didn't receive it until the April, but not unhappy about it, given the pleasure it brings me.
I get a real pleasure of taking something I'm attached to, breaking it down into its component parts, cleaning them and put it all back together.
I used to do it with toys and I've also done it with houses (which take slightly longer).
Beautiful photo of Glen Quaich.
I've been a frequent visitor in recent years and it's beginning to compete with Glen Lyon as my 'peaceful place'.
However, I suppose I can have more than one.
Great read to start my somewhat late day.
Plenty to think about.
What didn't kill me was why I drank, until I learned to ask better questions.
Insomnia plagues me tonight.
Maybe this will help...

Thanks, as always, I enjoyed that.
A few years back I came across an article that translated into English the place and hill names throughout the glen where Lochs Voil and Doine are.
The Gaelic names turned out to be very descriptive.
Yes, I appreciate your work, it's worth every penny I've paid over the last 10 years.
However, I did hit a problem today; MS Edge Smartscreen made me jump through several hoops to deem your desktop app as safe during a fresh install.
That's a new experienceπ
My Mrs worked for BA in the 90s so I could get Β£20 return flights to London on staff travel.
I had a couple of close school pals in Kilburn back then too for a place to stay on my monthly visit to the smoke.
BA had a staff travel dress code, so my Β£30 Rowans suits got a fair amount of use.
Looking forward to it Paul.
Life imitating art.
I had my own Rowans suit in '95, I found theatre ticket stubs in the pocket from Berlin in 1967. Grey with skinny lapels.
Wore it to a gig in the Dublin Castle, while down in the smoke hawking demo tapes to labels.
I still have the jacket.
Possibly my favourite guitar riff.
I play it with monotonous regularity (as is my want).

I enjoyed that.
Chimed with me regarding recovery from the 'ism' and living in a rural area.
The more I hear this, the more I think Beyonce stole the Grammy this year...

It was the last album I was listing to at home in March 84, an hour later I left school (involuntarily) and life changed due to an accident/brain injury.
The Minds pre-"Sparkle..." just about sums up my 2nd-ary schooldays in music.
1/2
I was a fan from the early days at the start of 2nd-ary school via mates' older brothers.
For me "Sparkle..." is their turning point album in more ways than one.
There's no bigger influence on my own amateur attempts at songwriting (which I do daily) than that album.
Closely followed by Swoon.
If, by some cruel twist of fate, I was sentenced to listen to only one song for the rest of my life, I would choose "Bonny" from this album.
