I'm thinking of making a practical showcase clip - it'll still use the CLI instead of a nicer GUI, but at least I'll have some progress to show off

I need some extrinsic motivation and encouragement, dammit, I've been working on stuff for too long without really showing off much of it

okay but what if I posted a little video demo of the CLI thing......
I'm always worried that a plain CLI won't be that interesting, but come on, maybe I can make it work with a bit of video editing

It's a shame that it's hard to measure the effectiveness of these methods. Especially when it's only client-side obfuscation (and there's really no better way here), you kinda just have to hope that it's actually deterring scraping successfully.

I wish you the best of luck with it, in any case - maybe it'll be sufficient to deter scraping effectively without affecting UX too much.

I would definitely check for browser compat, though - I know that some browsers have even had issues with uploading images to Bsky, where it involved a canvas somewhere along the way & resulted in glitchy zeroed-out-like images being uploaded instead.

Yeah, ultimately the issue is that you literally cannot prevent scraping completely, since the data always shows up on the end user's screen somehow.
I guess it might deter random scraping, at least, so it would work so long as there are other easier targets to go for.

It's a method that could be easily broken by just hooking into the client-side code that draws the canvas, but it would stop any conventional scrapers (though it would also hurt searchability via web crawlers)
Any thoughts about making it more resistant to a client-side bypass?
