My email to my MP about the #onlinesafetybill. Tomorrow's new rules will achieve nothing positive and show a complete misunderstanding of technology by the government. The solution is easy and simple: go all in on parental control systems, rather than creating even more problems.

Artists really need to band together in a stand against AI content, or they will all be completely drowned out

One effect will be that unless you can also produce videos of the highest quality, your content will be drowned out. We might also see a surge of person in front of camera style videos doing well, though it won't be long before AI can consistently generate those convincingly too.

It will not be long before all online written content is assumed be AI generated and therefore not worth reading. Blogging is on already life support, especially with Google's AI summaries. Medium blogs might last a bit longer but if a stand isn't taken, AI slop will completely dominate everywhere.

Reddit was already getting overrun with AI bots and this just caps it off. Things were bad enough with their automated username system making it harder to spot patterns

Sad to hear about Cohost closing down recently, smaller social sites are becoming a rarity! The UK Online Safety Bill will make this even more common once the law fully activates in July.

And all the while the work of real people is undervalued and cast aside. Writers more than anything will need to band together soon in a zero AI alliance.

It's a weird one to describe, it's got a breadth of knowledge wider than any human but the competency of an intern.

If you're a senior dev it can at best act as a enthusiastic junior helping with mundane tasks. But if not it will likely produce working but heavily flawed and inconsistent code that will become difficult to maintain.

Endless slop that's visually impressive but containing nothing of any real substance, that actively demotivates real creatives from producing something actually worthwhile

Ipad kids = early discovery and intrigue gone.

Adults using AI = ability to think gone
And AI is only just getting started

There's a lot of valid concern currently about unemployment steadily rising due to AI. As taxes can be readily defined as economic disincentives, any existing taxes that disincentivise employment (such as the recent UK increase to employer national insurance) should be reviewed immediately.

Surely there will first be a hype fueled reverse bubble, in which employers realise that AI agents aren't reliable replacements for humans yet and start hiring more again. AI is progressing fast however, so the trend is clearly real

On the plus side this might be our finest opportunity to reduce labour while maintaining production, leaving more time for creative endevours. Though AI is smothering those areas too, I'm worried people will soon start to feel that working to get good at something is pointless.

And the UK creative industry is huge relative to the population of the country, it's one of our best assets and exports. Damaging it is exceptionally short sighted!

That would certainly help to cover detectable AI and AI created by legitimate sources. How concerned are you about a state actor using AI agents to clash with people and slightly modify the narrative to their own end?

Switching from Windows to Linux sure is looking attractive nowadays

It just makes it too easy to not think. We're quickly heading to a world where the majority of things you read online are AI generated, whether that's made clear or not. Will we hit a point where we just assume that everything we see is not worth actually reading?
