You say: they shutdown USAID.

You mean: they illegally broke in to a secure facility over a weekend, hijacked sensitive data on vulnerable people and US businesses, destroyed property Americans paid for, cut off resources for sick and hungry families, and fired Americans across the country.

What a U.S. exit from the WHO means for global health By withdrawing from the World Health Organization and overhauling aid, Trump's new executive orders endanger Americans and the globe, researchers warn. The move also cedes U.S. power to other nations.

A brilliant article from @amymaxmen.bsky.social on the impact of our exit from the WHO. β€œThis not only makes Americans less safe, it makes the citizens of other nations less safe," said Tom Bollyky, director of CFR global health. All COVID-19 data sources indicate that cases are now decreasing in the U.S., suggesting we’re past the peak of this winter’s surge. Other diseases β€” especially norovirus β€” continue to spread, too.

The CDC has estimated that there were 4-8 million COVID-19 cases between October 2024 and early January 2025, leading to up to 210,000 hospitalizations and up to 25,000 deaths. The agency doesn’t include Long COVID in these estimates, but due to what we know about the disease, a significant fraction of those infected likely developed Long COVID or experienced new or worse chronic illnesses following COVID-19 this winter.”

At the inauguration, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson wore a distinctive collar adorned with cowrie shells, which are believed to offer protection from evil in African traditions.

This choice mirrors the late Justice Ginsburg’s practice of using collars to convey a message.

Study: Multiple Covid Infections Associated with Long Covid
January 15, 20254 min read
Covid patientA new study that identified 475 patients with post-acute sequelae of Covid-19 (PASC), also known as Long Covid, revealed that 403 of these patients β€” nearly 85 percent β€” had multiple Covid-19 infections over the course of the four-year period from March 2020 to February 2024.

Additionally, vaccination independently reduced the risk of Long Covid in patients who had received the vaccination prior to contracting the infection.

Conducted by a team of researchers in the Renaissance School of Medicine (RSOM) at Stony Brook University, in conjunction with the Stony Brook World Trade Center (WTC) Health and Wellness Program, the study may serve as a foundational assessment of Long Covid patients in the post-pandemic era. To date there are few studies with such a patient sample size that investigates what puts patients at risk for Long Covid and what causes this chronic condition.

The findings are published early online in the February edition of The Lancet Regional Health – Americas.
