With bills having gone up, itโ€™s time to take energy back into public ownership The obscene profits of the energy industry show the sector is broken

The French would like to thank the UK for funding to them.

2020 - 2024: EDF owned by the French state made ยฃ91bn operating profit in the UK, subsidises French households/industry.

UK govts oppose public ownership but happy to let foreign govts own UK infrastructure, export billions of profits.

Can offshore wind help some fish? Research increasingly says yes. First shipwrecks. Then oil rigs. Now, itโ€™s offshore wind turbines that are becoming artificial reefs for creatures from haddock to lobster.

The rigs-to-reefs phenomenon is starting to play out at some UK wind turbines.

But, unlike oil rigs, these massive structures are *reducing* emissions caused by burning fossil fuels, which is warming the ocean and devastating marine life worldwide.

The discovery that haddock are utilizing the foundations of wind turbines demonstrates how much researchers are still learning about the potential benefits of installing wind structures in the ocean floor:

Unfortunately not. It was part of a small study on potential impacts of a renewables site on crustaceans/catch rates. The local fisher we used retained all shark/conger bycatch for bait. I have the data if it could be useful. I know the practice also happens in south Devon/Dorset.

Thanks for posting, hadn't seen this study. We saw similar retention of bycatch for bait (catsharks and conger) in a crab/lobster fishery in north Cornwall a few years back. I always wondered if it was scaled up what the effect might be on local or regional populations.
