Over 400 Mi'kmaq served in WWI, WWII, and the Korean War? Yet First Nations weren't recognized as Canadians until 1956 and couldn’t vote until 1960. Thus, we were allowed to fight and die for a country that didn't recognize us as citizens.

Least we forget.

I already knew to hate when utilities are installed in the middle of the sidewalk, but I didn’t realize the consequences for winter accessibility—i.e., since plows can’t make it through, they plow these spots poorly. All to maximize space for #Autowa. #OttWalk #OttRoll

The sidewalks under the Bank Street 417 underpass seem to be a magnet for random pedestrian obstacles. First it was the two seemingly permanent traffic cones on the western side (also pictured here) and now it’s a portable toilet on the eastern side.

Today I spoke with two Stittsville residents from Southeast Asian backgrounds who’ve experienced troubling incidents: one involving an attempted distraction theft targeting a senior, and another facing harassment from a neighbour. They both believe they were targeted because of their race.
