The post-modal grammaticalisation of concessive may and might | John Benjamins Abstract The decline of certain core modals in English, including may and might, is a well-documented phenomenon (cf. Daugs 2017). It is less clear, however, whether this tendency will lead to the los...

🎉 My paper “The post-modal grammaticalisation of concessive may and might” is now Open Access!

Books: Advanced English Grammar: Depraetere and Langford (2025) With more than 50 years of teaching experience between them, Ilse Depraetere and Chad Langford present a grammar pitched precisely at advanced learners of English who need to understand how the English language really works without getting stalled in the complex specifics. This textbook pulls all of the relevant ideas from linguistic theory to support the language student to fully understand English grammar. After introducing form and function, the authors cover verbs, nouns, aspect and tense

"The synthesis that the authors have managed to compile is very impressive. It is a monumental task to have to make a selection of the most relevant concepts in cognitive CxG. Still, there is an abundance of examples, which really contributes to the clarity of the explanations given"
