The thesis presented a model of prognostic critique in CDS which in one specific incarnation combines aspects of cognitive linguistics and Contact Theory to identifying potentially prejudice-mitigating discourse features.

Once a year we take our @lancslinguistics.bsky.social MA students for a trip to the Lakes that involves a little hiking, a little climbing, a little caving and a little ice cream. Once again we were incredibly lucky with the weather and everyone had a great day out and a day off from dissertations.

A brilliant day thanks to all the people that attended in person and online with lots of interesting questions and discussion.

In the afternoon we had a session on AI-image generation exploring replicability issues when working with automated image tags, children’s use of AI images in creating story books, and AI-image generation as a tool for analysing the visual representation of refugees and migrants on the internet.

and the importance of large language corpora in understanding and improving student’s academic writing in different disciplines.
