that cover is AMAZING, art aside, why would you recommend it, if at all? just curious

i'm running it at the moment and it's awesome! it has close to anything i'd want from an rpg product, and sometimes more.

@newnumbertwo.bsky.social hey does the DIY in your bio refer to music (as i see you're into computer music) or to RPG related endeavors?
As i too am pretty into hacking end experimenting with rulesets if the latter is the case

@coral-wave.bsky.social say, it seems to me by your posts that you're not into grimdark settings as much as more high fantasy ones, if that's true, what's your "appendix N" in that regard? what songs/books/products do you take inspiration from?

@tomsonn2015.bsky.social DUDE DO YOU LIKE TRENCH CRUSADE?! i bumped into it casually on pinterest thanks to Franchina's gorgeous artwork, i have the basic playtest rules and am begging for more stuff to immerse myself into that bomb of a setting! where would one get more of THAT?

@tsevelev.bsky.social if i may ask, what led you to publish all dogs go to hell? going from having nothing under the sun to a published adventure (and a successful one to boot) is quite a leap indeed.

So about the Compendium and how it is different from Cube World modules, besides being a big book and not a PDF.
The Inquisitors' Road is one of my fave CW adventures. It's pretty much all text (the way I like it).
In the Compendium, however, the NPCs for this adventure are presented like this.

this is the paired map to the second player facing map i posted. i drew it in hexographer and painted bigger hexes on it in GIMP, and then numbering each in one note. A HUGE waste of my time btw, as hexographer had, in fact, a function for doing exactly that i just didn't yet know about (map scale).

one of my latest maps, the player facing map of the city of freeport, my first attempt at a "citycrawl", very much still a work in progress, i might overwrite or most likely add a few things here and there. for example i hate that *damn* bump in the canal

this is a treasure map the players found in the second hexcrawl, as i wanted languages to play a role in it i prepared 2 versions, one in dwarven script, and one in italian, were my players able to decipher it in the end (not a dwarf in sight in their party).

Once thegaming group held together i decided to expand the original hexcrawl and prepared a new player facing map. Scale is wonky but hey it came along good enough, surely improved in using the software, drawing the atlas map as a first project had been traumatic -_-

this is a map i made for a siege encounter where the party had to split to cover different areas of a war camp and resolve 5 possible encounters to "soften" the gate encounter and access the final boss encounter. more of a visual aid than an actual map, and my first attempt at manning a "big event".

this has been my most complex battlemap by far, meant for a boss encounter in a warehouse, colors represent different levels of elevation, green squares are spots from where the BBEG could vanish and reappear freely and the red grid an aid for tracking dynamic effects such as fire.

city encounter battlemap: the 3 different colors (light brown, dark brown, black) represent different levels of elevation. there's also fog coming from the sewers, wood structures for construction for cover and slippery puddles.
it's a bit chaotic in hindsight but at least held well during play.

wilderness battlemap including a bridge, forested area with shrubs, tar pits and a broken carriage. originally meant for a troll encounter in my first hexcrawl, but it's pretty adaptable to other contexts. software: GIMP

this one is a wilderness dungeon/battlemap that i designed as a location for a hexcrawl. in hindsight i'd remove encounters descriptions, suits better a VTT and allows me to insert new ones without having to erase the previous ones. software: GIMP

think i'll contribute least a little to rpg space by posting some of the maps i've done recently, here's the first, a player facing map i designed for my first ever attempt at an hexcrawl

doesn't that just "open branches" without closing them? i'd say it offers an opportunity to the referee to close them with their own answers if none are given. kinda like hinting at a setting rather than building it outright

sad to say, but nothing. i played for years without ANY phisical manual save for some printed sheets of paper once. only pdfs.
i know, that's monstrous.

as for rpgs i'm into anything really, i mostly ever played 3.5 and pathfinder 1e, only dipping into other games, but i am slowly but surely expanding my rpg literacy, mostly because i like to try and design stuff myself

you say that as if it was a tiny little thing. kudos to you instead! i'm also into DIY terrain although i scarcely have the time to do it as of now, i have mostly some scatter pieces for now. stuff i picked from blackmagicraft, bard's craft and wyloch.

i discovered Fafhrd and G.M. through a blogpost, i wanted to experience the old school fantasy literature (sort of the one you see in "appendix N") read through the whole of Conan's tales and had an absolute blast, i actually wanted to puck up on the duo next

@cicatrician.bsky.social seen your ADnD post, could you elaborate? i am stockpiling manuals to read and i might bump it up the ladder if the gems are worth the crawl
