Windows got a bad rep because of variability in builds but my experience is it's always worked as well as my Macs - and MIDI-wise, neither are as stable as my Atari Mega/STE ;-)

I haven't tried to do so recently, but as recently as three years ago I was able to use my RME HDSP expresscard w/the Sonnet Echo ExpressCard-to-TB2, then into an Apple TB2-to-TB3 adapter and continue to use my purchased-in-2002 Multiface on my Windows laptop. Ran this config for years, in fact.

Also, every non-RME audio interface I've ever bought wound up being a disappointment. Sure, RME might ridicule your needs on their support forum and imply you're stupid, but then they'll turn around and quietly implement your feature request.

It still blows my mind that I can participate in actual discussions here, and sometimes the music conversation in particular gets real, real close to what for me was the gold standard - mailing lists in the 90s-00s. The IDM, mw-raves, mtn-raves, ambient lists at hyperreal were frequently gold.
