Meanwhile, another French producer notes, "We’re financing the public broadcaster and now they’re selling off the content to Amazon. And no one has really communicated how the business model works and whether it’s a pure acquisition or a real exchange of things.”

In France, the France Televisions/Prime Video and TF1/Netflix deals are rankling producers, and understandably so. "If a producer can’t make a separate deal with Netflix to help co-finance a show because Netflix gets the show anyway through [TF1], then that’s one financial partner that disappears.”

I was curious about second-window deals for producers (if your ITV show is now also on Disney+, for example, do you get any extra £?). The answer is no, because of fairly standard sub-licensing terms. But could that -- and should that -- change in the future? French producers certainly think so.
