Out grocery shopping and @mukulsoman.bsky.social called to ask if I was safe during the floods. Mukul came out to photograph coyote cubs at my house. He’s not really posting here, but you should follow him on Insta if you’re there. Great #wildlife photography ethic and a truly kind, good person.

Yup, stored important papers and camera gear with a friend uphill, staying with another friend. I never chance it.

We’re out. Water was starting to cover the road when I left. Joe is in board, Dug and I are staying with a friend.

I’m safe, thank you. Dug and I are staying with a friend and Joe is in a frou frou kennel. Watching the hydrographs, it looks like we might crest lower than expected, but there’s no way I was going to chance waking up to a dike breach in the middle of the night and stressing rescue services.

An atmospheric river continues to drench the Pacific Northwest in heavy rainfall, resulting in a widespread flooding threat across western Washington.

This timelapse since the beginning of the week shows the relentless plume of moisture that has soaked the region.

Dug is having a good time. We’re evacuated and staying with a friend. Joe is in board with all the pampering I could get him. I’m really disorganized and I yelled at three different flood tourists, one of whom opened my gate and walked in my yard. But we’re all safe tonight and that’s what count.

We are out! Joe is getting the spa treatment in boarding (seriously- couch time, walks, pumpkin pops, bath and nails). Dug is with me and we’re staying with a friend.

Lots of wood heading downstream. I’ve seen more before, but this is how you can tell a few landslides happened.

The dogs thought it was just ride along to work day and snooze in the truck while I earned the dog biscuits. But no, it was avoid the rising river and get Joe his flu shot so I can board him tomorrow and Thursday. Sorry buddy.

We are, thank you. I packed the truck and worked at a nearby facility today. The river crested well below forecast and will drop a little overnight, so I’m going to sleep at home and then stay at a friend’s tomorrow and Thursday. The hydrographs below are from morning and afternoon-6 ft drop!

70 feet from Ebey Slough, behind an old dIke. The river created 4 feet below forecast so the road was dry and I came home tonight. Low tide runs to early in the morning so it will temper the peak a bit. Tomorrow is another story- the stream swung south and is supposed to come back north and soak us.

The first red flag for the billionaires that seemed to forget the US is a consumer economy. You can’t impoverish Americans and ask them to spend money at the same time. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This isn’t too bad if it’s a realistic prediction. I will be watching because the 2006 flood was projected at about 27 feet until 11 am, and then jumped to 33.5. it ended up just shy of record.

The old catchphrase "run the government like a business" has never made sense, definitionally. Most government services are things no business would ever do, because not all human needs can be contorted into a profit-generating activity.
