Still in disbelief there's an actual following of - and some sort of mainstream press respect - for someone who wrote his "most important works" under the pseudonym of Mencius Moldbug. I mean, at some point cringe itself has to become a measuring stick right
07.09.2025 17:58 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0White text on a deep blue background: The End of Everything (2026) A novel by M John Harrison It feels like the end. Government barely functions, the seas are full of new creatures, Europe has been mislaid: yet the exact cause of the catastrophe remains obscure. Is it an alien invasion? An ecological collapse? Or an unprompted change in the nature of reality? Phillip Tennent makes a living selling exotic lifeforms washed up from the Channel - until he lands a creature whose shapeshifting properties threaten to destabilise everything he thinks he knows. M John Harrison, acknowledged master of science fiction, unsettles and entertains in this slyly satirical adventure into the limits of human knowledge and mastery.
Guess this might be the prompting I needed to write a deep dive on MJH

19.02.2025 06:29 โ ๐ 170 ๐ 19 ๐ฌ 5 ๐ 0Ancient Egyptian artistsโs small, naturalistic painting of a standing hippopotamus on a flake of white limestone, dated c. 1479โ1425. The hippo is painted in profile with head lowered and to the right. The body is outlined with black paint and painted brown. The belly, eyes, and ears are painted red. Although the ancient Egyptians were well aware of the danger and destructive power of hippos, this painted hippo has a seemingly friendly face! Dimensions: H. 10.8 cm (4 1/4 in); W. 12 cm (4 3/4 in); Th. 1.7 cm (11/16 in) Egyptian artists made practice sketches on flakes of limestone, sometimes for use as templates when transferring an image to the wall of a tomb or a temple. Limestone flakes were readily available because of the constant construction of temples and rock-cut tombs. A number of such sketches were recovered at Deir el-Bahri during the 1922-23 MMA excavations. This painting was acquired by the Met museum in the division of finds.
