Only one operational P-8, 169336, has received both. The aircraft has seen heavy use in troubled regions, seen here operating over the CENTCOM AOR earlier this year, just weeks before the Israel-Iran war.

The AN/APS-154 AAS (Advanced Airborne Sensor) is a multi-function radar pod mounted under the fuselage of select P-8s. It provides wide-area surveillance, allowing the Poseidon to track surface vessels, vehicles, and even coastal infrastructure with precision across long ranges.

The P-8A Poseidon - the U.S. Navy’s primary maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft - recently receiving two key upgraded systems. The MUOS satellite upgrade enabled Poseidons to share targeting data and sensor feeds in real-time with ships, submarines, and ground units.

Historical imagery reviewed by Hunterbrook indicates that this is an unusual deployment, with no similar traffic observed during 248 Sentinel-2 passes over a 5-year period.

CGSTL denies any assistance to the Houthis, though the company has faced previous Western sanctions for supplying Yevgeny Prigozhin and the Wagner Group with satellite imagery, imagery reportedly used to plan the Group's march on Moscow.

These restrictions emerge following U.S. allegations that China's Chang Guang Satellite Technology (CGSTL) provided satellite data to the Houthis, transmitting targeting information on American and international vessels operating in the Red Sea.

The move may bring increased attention to ESA's limited transparency. Unlike national space agencies, ESA is exempt from Freedom of Information regulations.
