About 600 years ago, the Early #Renaissance artist #Pisanello painted a lady amidst flowers and #butterflies. The butterflies are so well drawn that they can easily be identified by species. One of them is Vanessa cardui.

I doubt that Pisanello knew the common English name: "Painted lady"
