Image of Dr. Jessica Toste. Dr. Jessica Toste is an Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education at The University of Texas (UT) at Austin. She holds research affiliations with the Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk and Texas Center for Equity Promotion. Her research is focused on methods for intensifying intervention for students with persistent reading challenges and reading disabilities, and she is principal investigator on grants from the U.S. Department of Educationβs Institute of Education Sciences (IES) and Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She is the Editor-in-Chief of The Reading League Journal (TRLJ), an associate editor for the Journal of Learning Disabilities, President of CECβs Division for Research, and Past President of the Division for Learning Disabilities. Dr. Toste is an award-winning teacher. She was recently selected to join the UT Austin Academy of Distinguished Teachers. Additionally, she was the recipient of the 2023 Presidentβs Associates Graduate Teaching Excellence Award, 2022 Deanβs Distinguished Teaching Award, and was named one of the 2017 βTexas 10β professors at UT Austin.

I think some people hear βgrantsβ and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service.
βPausingβ grants means people donβt eat.

I think most teacher candidates (and current teacher social media personas) do not realize that the social media consent form parents sign for the school do not extend to their personal pages. I would also add that displaying student work on their social media is also a big no.
