An epic Friday adventure today in Belmont Reserve. A run from Manor Park into Dry Creek and then meandering through Belmont Resrve, before popping out on Normandale Road. Lots of cows, mud, sunshine and hills.

I'm normally in favour of joke candidacies because they expose the narrowed, vanilla choices that electoral politics can sometimes leave us with. But in this instance, I worry they may distract from just how ill-informed and ill-prepared some of the other candidates are.

I watched the first half of David Attenborough’s The Ocean last night, after being directed to do so by my teenager. I was in tears for all the little fish! I’m scared to go back tonight for the second half β€” I’m not sure I can endure more trauma!🐟

I'm running a second lap at the Shaw Baton Relay at Queen Elizabeth II Park, Paekākāriki.

It was a fun Matariki weekend celebrating cross-country running. On Friday, I was at the Vaoga Cup in Whanganui. On Saturday, I was running in the Shaw Baton Relay at an unusual Paekākāriki course, and on Sunday, I ran up and over Mt Kaukau to the Crows Nest.

All the best Dorne Cup race photos take place at the stream crossing! No one shares photos of other parts of the race, such as their low cadence slog across muddy football fields.

The Miramar peninsula is disappearing into the incoming southerly clouds

This Friday's adventure - a tramp around the Miramar Peninsula that turned into a jog to avoid the incoming southerly. When we left, the sea was flat as glass. By the time I was biking home, I was standing on my pedals to make progress through the wind.

This week I took my daughter and friends to their football game in Upper Hutt. It's a joy to explain to other sideline parents that I save enough money from not owning a car that I can afford to hire a Mevo regularly. Carless is easy and pleasant in a city with good bike lanes and public transport.

I love the lads at GCN. They are a charming combination of passion for silly sports challenges and essential political challenges. I'm now imagining a life where we only need to travel 7km a day.

Stephen's review of The Remains of the Day 5/5: I read this book knowing nothing about it before I began, other than it had been made into a movie that I had not seen. I had read Klara and the Sun and loved that book, so that was my incentive ...

Extremely awkward watching He Huang's hilarious White Man's Burden show tonight. Especially as I'd been stingy and bought 2-4-1 tickets. I and fellow white males were well skewered! Luckily, I didn't get picked for any audience interaction, despite my apparent white maleness.
