It's genocide.
Today is Hamilton's day (the maths one, who reformulated physics, not the politician)
Cheers to Hamilton!
You know what actually breaches international law? Enabling a genocide by supplying weapons, jet parts, intelligence, and diplomatic immunity.

As we hold our breaths in horror at what is happening in the Middle East, we know one thing to be true: until everyone is safe in the region, no one can be safe. Recognising Palestine will set the tone for peace. Join me and speak up for peace? action.wemove.eu/sign/2024-04...

OK this is definitely one for future historians

30.07.2025 12:15 โ ๐ 9 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0What's also not unique is that the answer to the question "How did the world let this happen?" is still that the world is run by racists, individuals and institutions, who believe in a hierarchy of human life
26.07.2025 19:48 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Israel Minister Aimchai Eliyahu "All Gaza will be Jewish...the government is pushing for Gaza being wiped out. Thank god, we are wiping out this evil."
Unless Netanyahu sacks him or reprimands him (he hasn't and won't), we should see it as an official statement of Israeli policy and objectives.
Good on France! As the Knesset voted to annex the West Bank, and Israel continues to wipe out Gaza, this is mostly a symbolic move. An important one, nonetheless

We will remember those who have enthusiastically enabled and sponsored their "ally" to do this. And believe me, we have long memories.
One day, the Hague will welcome a bunch of high profile residents
Al-Jazeera graphic [text] ISRAEL'S WAR ON GAZA Space for Gaza's displaced shrinking 90 percent of Gaza's population has been forcibily displaced, many multiple times, while 86 percent of the territory is now under Israeli forced evacuation orders or designated as military zones. [image] Map of Gaza demonstrating that areas with both an Israeli militarized zone and under forced evacuation take up the vast majority of the strip [text on the image] 86% of the Gaza strip is a no-go area or Israel-ordered displacement zone
The Gaza Strip is 25 mi long & 3.7-7.5 mi wide; ~140 sq mi altogether.
That's about the size of Las Vegas.
The white parts in this map are the only parts of those 140 sq mi that are not an Israeli militarized zone, under forced evacuation, or both.
The one in the middle is being attacked today.
It's Clear โ Israel Now Has a Plan for the Ethnic Cleansing of Palestinians From Gaza

19.07.2025 09:37 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Not the only mistake in the article unfortunately. It says Hypatia lived in 3rd/4th century BC, which would be astonishing since she was murdered by a Christian mob (she lived in 4th/5th century AD in Alexandria)

18.07.2025 21:48 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Right yes I had the same thought, but then I realised back then it wasn't uncommon for his wife to be half his age or less

18.07.2025 21:24 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0As far as I know, it should imply actual marriage. Classical Arabic didn't change much, but there's a chance the word was used differently back then
18.07.2025 21:13 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Not an expert on Ibn Al Haytham by any means, but I think the Arabic word used here (Sihr/ุตูุฑ) does not always mean son in law. It can basically mean any 'relative via marriage'. So could be a wife's father, brother, or even uncle
18.07.2025 20:57 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0This is the end result of anti-trans bigotry: more harassment of girls and women, more policing of gender roles, more gender McCarthyism.

16.07.2025 12:16 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Finally, there's lots of caveats about our simplified setup, most importantly that we only partly treat gravitational stratification, and not self consistently. But as a first step we show that the DSI may be relevant for planet formation, even in the polydisperse regime
14/14
There also seems to be a gradient in sizes (with bigger dust forming filaments that are 'leading the way' as it were). This may have implications on dust growth, since dust particles mostly only see other particles with similar sizes in their immediate surroundings in those filaments
13/14
Last cool thing, when looking at the clumps of high dust density in the polydisperse cases (Fig.9) it looks like dust with different sizes form different filaments that are adjacent to each other, so that within each filament the dust is mostly with the same size
