21.05.2025 07:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Strategic locations in small towns. When possible, look for places where people in power make decisions. Courthouses and county buildings: these are often located in downtown areas. Representative's field offices: rural field offices are great options for protests and sit-ins. Federal buildings: includes courthouses, offices, and military sites. ICE field offices and detention sites: ICE often partners with local or state agencies to house detainees.
Street corners matter. In towns that don't have a field office or federal building, high-visibility street corners are a great option! Stay on the sidewalks: the First Amendment covers our right to protest on sidewalks. Ignore counter-protesters: maintain space from any counter-protesters and don't engage. Be consistent: Small protests will grow over time, and set a regular schedule so people can easily join you.
Planning a protest. Be sure to check local ordinances - some areas might have limits on sound or the number of attendees. Check your local ordinances for permit requirements. Set a date, time, and location. Share your protest on local Indivisible Facebook pages and in local subreddits. Contact your local newspaper to let them know you'll be protesting.

21.05.2025 07:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The importance of small-town protests. Around 60% of Americans live in cities, towns, or unincorporated areas with fewer than 50,000 residents. That's a lot of small towns. Let's take a look at why small-town protests matter, potential locations, and how to plan a protest in your area.
Disrupting the social contract. Social contract -- an unspoken agreement among people to follow the rules to maintain peaceful co-existence. In small towns, there is a lot of social pressure to maintain the status quo. "Don't talk about politics or religion!" Small-town protests break the social contract and send a message that Trump supporters are not the majority. In a propaganda-rich environment, this really matters.
π§΅At a protest near my town, I saw a woman weeping. She said she had been afraid to come out, and she was overwhelmed by how much support and connection she felt.
Small-town protests disrupt how people see their communities, which is crucial for large-scale change.

π§΅On May 1, news broke that the Tesla board of directors was looking for a new CEO. Although that news was quickly denied by the board, the cracks are showing.
The Tesla protests are working - so now it's time to increase the pressure.

Protests. Boycotts. Speeches. Lawsuits. Lobbying. Civil disobedience. Messaging campaigns. Opposition research. Documenting history. Protest art. Mutual aid. Building community.
All of it matters. Some canβt do all, but all can do some.

Decentralized movements are more adaptable and sustainable. But, we need to rethink what leadership looks like.

𧡠Is there an ICE facility near you? ICE includes a huge network of field offices, detention centers, and contractors.
All of these could be potential locations for protests, boycotts, or other types of creative, nonviolent civil disobedience.

Protests are growing, but they aren't necessarily getting news coverage. There are a lot of reasons for this, but the takeaway is it's up to us to spread the word.

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive.
No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief.

π§΅Is anyone else excited? There are over 1,000 protests planned for April 5 - it's gonna be big.
With all this energy building up, it's a great time to look at momentum-based organizing and how to channel momentum into long-term results.
