End of season tourney this weekend, gonna test out saying “quality” a minimum of 20 times per game like a soccer coach.

If you don’t sign me to a 10-day and give me meaningful minutes, are you even trying to tank bro?

This celts team kicks ass.

I also have them gronk spike the ball into the ground to see how high they can bounce it and then catch it. They love this, also they start to learn “HEY, IM STRONG!”

I literally just have them stand in a line and I throw the ball off the backboard toward the player, and they catch it. Toss back to me, go to end of line. My emphasis is hands in front of chest instead of over head and athletic stance. Just get them used to catching and not scared of the ball…

I coach 2nd grade girls too. I think we often skip over teaching the basic skill of “catching.” I spend a lot of time on this. At this age, players often put their hands over their head and hope the ball lands in the right spot…

Transforming Basketball honestly has some awesome drill ideas. Check them out on YT and IG. They can be a little too combative toward “structure” but there’s plenty of good stuff you can take away.

Our last practice is tonight. My plan is this:

-Show a some simple drills they can do for 15 min at home if they want to get better.

-Every kid makes a 3 pointer.

-Hand out send off letters, talk about how it felt being on this team. Encourage them to facilitate same feel in their spring sport.

Spent 90 min last night writing individual send off letters for each of my 3/4 grade players. Time well spent. Highly recommend doing this if you are a coach.

Literally, it’s the best environment to restore your faith in humanity.

Correct. Someone needs to get him on the record about jeans. A few years ago, he got pretty animated about how terrible jeans are and he told me he hadn’t worn jeans in 15 years.

My brother has a pretty convincing “no jeans” ideology. Perhaps we, as a society, could use him now more than ever.

“Doubles luge” was simply a relay race where two teammates go at a time, and you have to transport the ball across the court without using your arms or hands and the ball can’t touch the ground. So, they end up leaning into each other with the ball wedged between the two and scurry across the court.

Music chairs, you sit at half court. When music stops, you have to react and go shoot until you make a shot. Once you make a shot, you rush back and hope to get a chair.

Bball Curling: you have two lines on opposite 3 pt line. One player rolls the ball, other player runs it down and picks it up whenever they want. Wherever they pick it up, they have to shoot. Each make is 1 point, and we did a timed round.

Yes. It was literally the best. Kids and parents had an absolute blast. “Basketball curling,” musical chairs shooting, and “basketball doubles luge” were the biggest hits.
