It's a hell of a hike. 20 miles from start to first guaranteed H2O. Planning to walk out 7 miles a week early, carrying little but water and snacks, cache the H2O, and walk back. Do other stuff, before we return to meet our fate on "the most difficult of the established south side hikes".

Unlike many of the new NIH initiatives, this one actually sounds reasonable. When I was at NIH I chafed at burning my budget on this kind of thing.
