As well as traditional research, I am also a practitioner who explores research ideas through creative practice in art and games. In recent weeks I’ve been experimenting with oils and acrylics to explore how traditional art media can be used to represent digital and technological memories of games.

As a researcher I have many interests across game creation and the culture of games. My work tends to focus on nostalgia and cultural memory in games, both in terms of how society remembers gaming and how cultural and mediated memory is represented within games.

I am a Professor of Game Design & Culture at Abertay University in Scotland. I’ve been teaching games and computer arts for over 15 years, having previously worked in games both in art and in post-production. My PhD focused on game character animation.
