Since they use small green/yellow/red traffic lights instead of white bars I think theyβd be afraid of drivers getting confused and crashing into the streetcars ππ (obvious fix is to change streetcar signals but thatβs a big investment)

300km/h train through Ontario will happen years earlier than expected
Construction on one of the most ambitious and expensive transportation infrastructure projects to ever be undertaken in Canadian history is now targeβ¦
Canada actually speeding up the construction of high speed rail?? Do my eyes deceive me??
βThis will enable construction on Alto to begin in four years β as early as 2029 β instead of the original timeline of in eight years, towards the middle of the 2030s.β

The biggest discussion of the night was Shwery's amendment to use $2.4 million from the tax rate stabilization reserve to
reduce the 2026 tax levy.
"My proposal is an exception during difficult financial conditions, not a new standard practice" and said that using the reserve this year "reflects that principle," she said.
Staff warned council that using the reserve this way would create problems next year.
Staff further explained that this reserve is meant for one-time costs and that using it to lower the tax rate now "is quite certain to create a burden on these same taxpayers in 2027.'"
Councillor Ross Earnshaw attempted to amend Shwery's amendment so that only one-time costs would be covered. His amendment was defeated seven to two.
Council then voted on Shwery's original amendment, which passed six to three.
Disappointed to see Cambridge council pull the typical slimy politician move of making poor financial decisions to βkeep taxes lowβ before an election year only to create worse financial burden in the future to the same taxpayer
This kind of common behaviour disillusions me with western democracies

Looking forward to sharing more at the @Empire_Club this afternoon.

City Councillor and mayor hopeful
@BradMBradford tells @MooreintheAM he would implement a TTC Transit Service Guarantee, offering refunds to commuters whose trip is delayed by more than 15 minutes. Some cities do already. How often are you late using the TTC?
4533
Where would he find funding for the refunds? That would be quite a lot of lost revenue.
And if there wonβt be any lost revenue due to increased reliability, where will he find funding for those infra/service improvements?
Heβs also against bus and streetcar lanes so this, again, is all posturing

This year thereβs an upcoming municipal election so they ordered departments to prioritize βaffordabilityβ (to the taxpayer) from the outset. Council is aiming for below 5% increase, with some wanted to go even down to 3%. (2/2)

Because austerity. Last year the property tax increase was slated to be in the double digits so they wanted to get that down, ordering departments to find savings. (1/2)

Thereβs humongous pressure to open. This line is multiple years delayed and the agency has another line that is 15+ years under construction. They need to open something soon.
The slow zones may be a policy choice here to stay out of an abundance of caution, which is all I can say.

Itβs within its capabilities to be faster, with signal priority and getting rid of some of the speed restrictions. Just needs to be worked out by transportation staff if theyβre willing to.

Itβs remnant of Mayor David Millerβs transit city plan, which blankets the entire city in LRT. This was during a time when subway construction costs were going thru the rough and the city was looking for ways of building more transit infrastructure cheaply across larger distances.

That area of the city is βequity deservingβ and has been underserved for a while, with a promise of higher order transit.
The city wanted to build something nice in the area for economic revitalization. Also itβs one of the busiest bus routes so it gets pretty crowded. LRT offers the capacity
