This may be the lamest spam/scam text I’ve received in forever. And from a Hotmail account no less! Come on, scammers, try harder.

Book Banners Have Notched Another Victory over the Forces of Intellectual Diversity and Good Reading I am willing to bet a shiny nickel that, if you had lists of membership for all these groups, the same names would pop up on all the rosters.

It’s a tough call, but banning books may be the singularly most un-American activity in the whole land. It’s called the First Amendment for a reason.

The cruelty is the point.

I recall my first sad post on Facebook back in 2008, which was the social media equivalent of "Hello World." So as I sit at the DFW airport on my way to Tucson, AZ, configuring a new Bluesky account, I'll just toss this out to the world:

Jean Jennings, Who Wrote With Verve About Cars, Dies at 70 A cabdriver and mechanic before becoming a journalist, she brought personality and adventure to a once-staid genre. She once won a demolition derby and motorcycled across China.

Though Jean Jennings passed in December, the NYTimes just published this obit. I read her stuff pretty much as long as she wrote stuff. She (and a couple of others) made me want to write about cars, and my shitty blog is a paltry testament to that desire. What a legend, and missed.
