my dad works at job corp & is losing his job. he has to help send all of these hardworking kids away; some are lucky enough to be able to move on and get a job or go to college, some may have to go back to unsafe homes or others are homeless. it is not guaranteed they will have room at a shelter.

In other news, I finished up saving a canoe from the landfill. I think it turned out pretty darn well. I learned a lot, too, and that's a significant part of the satisfaction.

More women are murdered in the perinatal period than die of obstetric complications.

Years ago Dad as a US Marine went to Denmark and had a conversation with a Danish counterpart "yes we pay high taxes but no Dane will go hungry, without a place to sleep, or healthcare". That stuck with us both.

It's not free. I paid for it with my taxes. I want to pay for it with my taxes. I want to pay for cancer research with my taxes. I want there to be a social safety net for myself *and other people* and I'm happy to pay for that with my taxes.
