Just a reminder that while some cities are still debating whether or not to transform a block or two of streets into places for people, this year Montreal transformed 11 such streets across 7 neighbourhoods, equalling 9+kms, from car spaces to people places.

People rode bikes on these streets before the bike-lanes (albeit fewer) and they will again after. The inevitable blood will be on Fordโs hands.
Iโm going to say this again. Given that the Ontario Liberal, NDP and Green Parties are WELL AWARE of the likelihood that splitting the vote would hand the Doug Ford Conservatives another comfortable majority govt with a small % of the vote, Iโd think they would put aside ambitions AND WORK TOGETHER.

Never forget, if you design a city for cars, it fails for everyone, including drivers.
If you design a multi-modal city that makes walking, biking and public transit attractive options, it works better for everyone, including drivers.

I actively avoid calling people on bikes โcyclists.โ It fuels an โotheringโ or โus vs them,โ and makes it easier to claim that safe infrastructure is for a small in-group. None of which is helpful.
