Here's how I've been getting through the August of it all: Whatever I'm doing in the moment, I ask myself: "Am I doing this in the summeriest way possible?"

Usually, there is in fact a way I could be doing it in a more summery way (even if it's just by cracking a cold fruity seltzer)

This wasn’t delivered as advice but this is excellent advice and I will be applying it to my life henceforth.

This day needs to be over, Dan. I’m so over it.

So now, it’s 5pm and I’m finally boarding my flight home. I’ve spent all day in YVR and ugly cried twice.

Shoutout to the guy that went to the convenience store and bought me a pack of tissues while I was crying on the phone. That meant more than you can understand.

Also, I need to be downgraded to economy class to be on this flight…no compensation.

Also, my meal voucher for this whole fiasco finally came in on my phone but only after I’d already bought myself lunch.

Even better is that when I tell the rep that if I can’t get on that flight then I just want to fly back to Seattle, she says that she can’t process any refunds or compensate me and that I need to contact customer relations to file a claim because customer services != customer relations.

So Air Canada bumped me from a flight I could have made…??????

I realize as the rep is talking to the gate agent asking them to hold that this is actually for my original flight… but now, because I’ve spent all this time trying to talk to this rep, they won’t let me on.

When I mention this to the rep, she says that she doesn’t know why they’d bump me…

I ask the rep if she can get me on any direct flight to Ottawa, any fare class (willing to get bumped from business class to make this work). She says yes! And that there’s a flight juuuuust finishing boarding but that they will probably hold for me!

I then get an email and text from Air Canada that they’ve bumped me to a flight at 2pm flying to Toronto and then to Ottawa, getting in at 1:30am.

This doesn’t work anymore so I go to customer service to see what they can do given this is a quick 3 day trip.

We sit on the tarmac for another 20 mins or so before finally taking off at noon. There is now no way I’m making this flight but when I land at 12:35pm in YVR, I sprint to customs. There’s no line! Yay!

Unfortunately, this 1 hour delay turned into 1.5 hours and then 1hr40mins and so I go to the gate agent and I mention that I’m skeptical I’m going make the connection.

She reassures me I have time and that they’ll wait for me. I’m still skeptical but I don’t have much choice so I board.

Today, I arrived at the airport, get to the gate and I see that the flight is delayed by 1 hour. This is okay though, since I have a 2.5hr layover in Vancouver. No problem, I can do customs just fine in 1.5hrs.

So in early June, I booked a flight home to Ottawa from Seattle. I booked my usual 6am departure, connecting through Vancouver, arriving home around 4pm.

A month later, I get an email saying I was rebooked on a 10am flight, still through Vancouver but getting in at 8:40pm. Ugh but okay.

Okay, I am now ready to explain how fucking horrendous today has been.

Today, I was supposed to be going home to celebrate my sister’s 30th birthday and doing one last visit before she has her second child.

Unfortunately, that’s not happening anymore.

I’m not going to even recount the stupidity of this flight. I cannot be bothered
