What a cracking day. Ebor Lard ‘25 was a great hit! 12 players representing 12 different factions fought across 2 large tables in a VBCW game. Invading Soviets, raiding Scots, rioting Dockers, communists miners, pesky blinder criminals, fascist BUF, royalists, etc. you get the idea. Beautifully mad!

Great fun this afternoon as Eborgate kick off with an early VBCW game. A Dickinson & Morris tanker has broken down in the village of Wentham. Various nefarious factions fight to take control of the “special sauce”. Absolute chaos but great fun. Main event tomorrow when 12 factions fight for control.

If you haven’t seen it, there’s a cunning plan underway to refight the Battle of Hastings at a scale of 1 man = 1 miniature. This is the Peter’s Paperboys ‘Hastings 960’ project, using units of around 200-300 18mm minis to put 16,000 figures onto the gaming table in October 2026. #spreadthelard

I looked at CR but wanted rules that could deal with lots of players and multiple factions. Fistful of lead Bigger Battles does this. For a more traditional 2 sided engagement I’m keen to try XR.

A fun 4 player Very British Civil War game this afternoon. A Dickinson & Morris supply convoy was ambushed by the Humberford Dockers despite a strong police escort. At the same time the Castleford Miners attempted to blow up Wentworth Hall. The convoy was halted but Wentworth Hall still stands.

Last of the not Peaky Blinders. A rather excellent couple of packs by the master @hicksy.bsky.social for Empress Miniatures. Abraham Gold and a couple of minders. Rest of the Blinders all based up & varnished. Varnish does kill a bit of the contrast but these are gaming figures. Also a fascist Eddy

Susan got up on to the dais. There was something odd about the things around her. Of course, there was everything odd about the things around her, but it was a huge major oddness that was simply in their nature. She could ignore it. But there was an oddness on a human level. Everything was just slightly wrong, as if it had been made by someone who hadn't fully comprehended its purpose. There was a blotter on the oversize desk but it was part of it, fused to the surface. The drawers were just raised areas of wood, impossible to open. Whoever had made the desk had seen desks, but hadn't understood deskishness. There was even some sort of desk ornament. It was just a slab of lead, with a thread hanging down one side and a shiny round metal ball on the end of the thread. If you raised the ball it swung down and thumped into the lead, just once.

I stumbled upon a reddit post saying Pratchett's description of Death's house is also a perfect description of AI pictures. This is from Soul Music in 1994.

Just about finished my undead force for Dragon Rampant and Midgard. Just one base of scouts to do. Nice to almost get a project done!

We’ve raiders from Lancashire (Bury Unionist Militia), Scottish raiders harrying the NE & Yorkshire coasts and even a Soviet Intervention force. But thankfully nothing from Wales! 😮‍💨
