Pedal Power Remains Most Efficient Way To Travel, Confirms Scientific American
Scientific American confirms that human on a bicycle more efficient than salmon, seagulls, or jet planes, updating a piece from 1973.
βSince the bicycle makes little demand on material or energy resources, contributes little to pollution, makes a positive contribution to health and causes little death or injury, it can be regarded as the most benevolent of machines.β Hereβs the article by @carltonreid.com HT @sciam.bsky.social

Saddle up, Troopers. We're excited to reveal that @2000ad.bsky.social will continue to sponsor CBCC in 2026. And, gosh, it's gonna be a great year with the bitter war between the Norts & the Southers being depicted in Duncan Jones' ROGUE TROOPER flick. Lisa's recent Nu-Earth fandom is ready.

Suspect a major issue with this kind of book is that, by the time they hit shelves, all the specific details that might make them worth reading in the first place have already been broadcast and dissected for weeks. If you got the prΓ©cis from an SNL sketch on Instagram, why bother buying it?

A LEADING Scottish newspaper editor has been suspended after he was arrested and charged in connection with βindecent online communicationsβ.
David McCann, the editor of The Times and The Sunday Times in Scotland, was charged after police officers βexecuted a search warrant at a property in the Edinburgh areaβ on November 25.
McCann has been suspended from the business while he is subject to a βcriminal investigation unrelated to his workβ, a spokesperson for Times owner News UK said.
Depressing yet utterly unsurprising that it's taken two weeks for any media to report that the editor of The Times has been arrested and charged. Any newsroom trying to claim they had to wait for indictment doesn't seem to apply that logic to literally any other arrest/initial court appearance.

All antitrans campaigners are bigots. They swim in a sea of online bigotry in which trans people are routinely treated as less than human. They rejoice in having found a group to victimise that they have so easily stripped of all dignity. They laugh about it between themselves. Publicly. Online.

Do we have a name for the hive-mind body snatcher monsters in TV and film? Theyβre so ubiquitous (Pluribus, Bodysnatchers, The Borg, Mind-flayers), but I donβt think weβve ever given them a label a la zombie, vampire, werewolf, ghost, etc. Unless Iβm mistakenβ¦?

I miss my grandparents very much indeed. But I know that they are dead and I will never see them again. To try and create a hollow marionette that vaguely mimics them seems, at best, like cruelty and, at worst, a way of trapping me in my grief in order to monetise it.

Silver is one of the reasons I keep my subscription to 2000AD. While the prog does stories based on 40-year-old characters, it also does new stuff like "what if your sci-fi dystopian war unleashed a grumpy vampire on the alien invaders?" (Also, a rare case of an older woman as an action hero.)

Another frame from The X-Files, showing a sheet of paper being held up with an outline drawing of a gorilla-like hominid, similar to the Patterson-Gimlin film of 'Big Foot', with a pair of breasts drawn badly and incongruously on the torso. The closes caption says "Maybe it isn't a beast man we're looking for after all".
Still one of the greatest moments on any TV show ever.
