Herzog's Australia visit unfortunately links two previously separate events Unravelling the threads of antisemitism and anti-Israeli sentiment will require both more political courage and more community tolerance than we have seen to date.

"Inviting…head of state…implicated in…ongoing genocide as…representative of…Jewish community is deeply offensive & risks entrenching…dangerous & antisemitic conflation between Jewish identity &… actions of…Israeli state," said [JCA] executive officer Sarah Schwartz.

No, Portland is not at war. Yes, it is a progressive city where citizens have protested against ICE and other Trump Administration policies and practices. Friends say that, like other cities, visitors may not even be aware of anything. Violence? No. Targeted city to quell political opposition.

Fantastic concert earlier this week. Lucinda Williams joining Paul Kelly for Australian tour that landed at the intimate MyState Arena in Hobart. Wow. Many great reviews available online from opening concert in Perth say it better than I could.

Several days late, but a few pics from last weekend. Saturday morning Salamanca Market with a snow capped Kunanyi/Mt Wellington. And a full double rainbow over River Derwent on Sunday. Yeah, not bad, Hobart! Not very Spring-like, but I’ll take it!

I listened to the countdown before heading out for the evening around #24. Not disappointed by #INXS topping the #Australia #Hottest100! INXS is my favourite Aussie band, having been turned on to them as a young teen in 1982 with Shabooh Shoobah by my friend's punk sister. Onya, INXS! #music

First locally born Tasmanian governor, Guy Green, dies aged 87 Colleagues and friends remember a thoughtful man of the law, champion of the Antarctic and "one of the funniest men".

RIP Sir Guy Green. Sir Guy (he preferred just Guy) was a passionate champion of Antarctica and of the Antarctic Treaty System. As Governor of Tasmania he developed and promoted the Governor’s Forum on Antarctica. I will miss him as a wonderful colleague.

Where was this insight in June? Where was leadership, maturity, and a willingness to work collaboratively when given the opportunity to do so? "Representing our communities is not a game. It's about working together to make positive change." Is anyone listening to Rosalie Woodruff?

Labor's Dean Winter describes #TASpol election as "a resounding message that [Tasmanians] want their politicians to work together more collaboratively. ...[W]e need to figure this out. This will take leadership, it will take maturity, and it will take a willingness to work and seek common ground."

Honest question. How does the new HRA definition and the Special Envoy’s Plan to Combat #Antisemitism classify the sentiment below? Anti-#Israel? Certainly anti-Israeli army acts. Antisemitic? How it would be interpreted under the plan?

Wonderful to see gifted palawa musician Dewayne Everettsmith performing his music with #TasmanianSymphonyOrchestra. The #LutruwitaArtOrchestra was privileged to perform Muylatina Tapilti Nayri with Dewayne in Dec 2024, evoking the spirit, memory and energy of Country through site-inspired music.
