Fair, I guess I wouldn’t have brought my stuff into the office when working front desk or as an intake coordinator. I wish office culture was more crafting friendly. It’s such a good stress release valve.

01.12.2025 18:03 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Really? When working at a call center, many of us brought our craft projects with us. So long as they were quiet crafts like embroidery/hand sewing (not machine sewing), crochet/knit, scrapbooking, origami, etc, we were fine. Or is it not wanting an audience/management-level-audience?

01.12.2025 16:20 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Hello, I’m Kethry! I’m a queer social work student in Minnesota. My current book is actually rehabbing some kids books to give them a new lease on life and put into little free libraries. I also play with fibers, and am currently double checking a pattern I wrote for a granny square.
01.12.2025 16:18 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0There are lots of knitting tutorials on YouTube, and it helps to watch it when you are first starting out. Descriptions only go so far.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a pattern or tutorial for a chihuahua sweater that already exists. 😊
Use sturdy, possibly stainless steel needles with big eyes, pliers/hemostats/grippy gloves, and a high twist cotton thread. Hand sewing through multiple layers of denim will not be fun, but it is possible, and easier with the right tools.
Good luck, you got this!
That is exceedingly cool, where did you get the pattern and what yarns and needles are you using?

Thing is, I’ve no idea yarn size or hook size on the original, & just made mine in whatever I had, & I’ve no idea if the original was a commercial pattern, nor when it was made, to avoid stepping on someone’s commercial interests. I would also need to give it a nicer name than “Red Great-Granny Sq.”
30.11.2025 17:15 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Debating putting out a pattern I made based on an image from Reddit. Someone asked for help with recreating their great-grandma’s granny square & initially got a load of bs, cuz people didn’t understand that some loops had collapsed in storage & assumed the worst, which I didn’t think was fair. 🧶

Well, that’s a first. I wonder if that was chat-me-up blocking me or a mod stepping in? Can other people see the whole thread?

28.11.2025 22:32 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I actually already looked it up, but I wanted to know your definition, since you are so adamant that we’ve never been an empire. This doesn’t disprove what I said. It’s more complex than yes or no, and that’s okay. Denying our history doesn’t change it.
28.11.2025 22:27 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 3 📌 0I genuinely don’t understand why some Americans get in their feelings when other Americans point out that we have a complex national history, & had/have an empire-building phase. Like, this already happened, it’s not like denying it because you’re mad about it will change what happened.
28.11.2025 22:25 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0And if you’re talking definitions, define the word.
28.11.2025 22:18 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I never actually said we were/are an empire, in direct opposition to your statement. I talked about our history, which shows we had/have some empire-building tendencies, whether or not we define ourselves as such. It’s not a black & white issue, & THAT is my point. Why do you care if we are or not?
28.11.2025 22:18 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0There’s a difference between “could qualify as” and “is considered.” Your reaction seems strong for the subject.

28.11.2025 16:05 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The US did conquer the land we reside on, and take territories, so in technical terms, we could qualify as empire. & we have used our influence & power to dominate the political & economic landscape of the world since we rose as a world power, as much as possible. Not proud of it, but it’s true.

Is there a way to go back and do the ones I’ve missed?
From back to front: a Brother serger/overlocker on a bookshelf with a dust cover, a ball winder, a bottle of Feed N Wax, and a bottle of spinning wheel oil. A warping board is leaned against the bookshelf. In front of the bookshelf is the gleaming Ashford spinning wheel named Starling by her previous person. In front of her is hamper full of fiber (wool, flax, and silk), topped off with swifts, fiber winders, a yarn measuring tool, 2 balls of hand-spun wool, a pair of hand carders, a box of knit/crochet counters, two long picks for creating a second pattern shed while weaving, a silicone mat for ironing fusible things without getting my ironing board gross, a blocking board, a darning egg on a stick, a place to rest my weavers cross while dressing my loom if my hand hurts, and a bag of embroidery thread. I never in my life expected this and I’m stunned and thrilled to give it all a home with me. Now I just have to sort out my space. 😅
So my weaving instructor is leaving the country cuz… *gestures at America* …which sucks, & also means that I just made out like kid in a candy shop with no budget. I just spent an hour dusting, waxing, polishing, & reassembling the Ashford spinning wheel in the picture, & playing with my new toys.

I help run an annual science fiction & fantasy convention, & I’ve never seen a panel broken down that specifically. That might be a difference between professional & fan-run conventions, but it feels icky.
Good luck.
I would gently push back.
You’re not a man.
I don’t understand why they’ve chosen to select 10 men & 10 women, versus say, 7-10 men, 7-10 women, & up to 6 people of other genders. If the goal is balanced perspectives, that would be a more inclusive approach that doesn’t shove NBs into a binary.
I set them up last night and they are **almost** dry. I’m itching to get them on my needles!
