07.12.2025 07:40 — 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Whatever else it can do, this tech adds work and erodes trust. The extra work is time-wasting and wearying, and I resent the erosion of trust most deeply. I cannot believe it is healthy for society to be ever less sure that anything you encounter is the real thought or expression of a fellow human

I’m forecasting a little of the proposal that @cnygren.bsky.social and I advance in a piece that’ll be out soon but here’s where I’ve personally landed (o speak for myself not for us both):

It rarely makes xmas book guides. But poetry is an ethical gift that: supports underfunded writers; wins brownie points with gift receiver; improves the human soul

Exactly so: if you insist you can only give to the "deserving" then you commit to a lifetime of judging and distrusting others

But, yesterday, I spent so many sessions colouring in random shapes I’d drawn in my notebook. So stitching is in my bag today.
I fully agree. And I would also like to note that over the course of my career I learned that this was the right position, having started from an inherited assumption that there was something kind of dodgy and unworthy about (students who wanted) extensions and accommodations. You can too!
