Nor will they, because they don’t care.

Also, it is “unincorporated territory” aka colony.

It’s September 23, so I’m thinking about the Grito de Lares. We’re still screaming 156 years later. Fuck colonialism. Viva Betances.

Related, librarians as a class do not support social justice or DEI. Because most librarians will cave at the thought of someone in power being mad at them before they'll stand up for someone unlike them.

(for those outside the field: it has been near 90% white for decades, this isn't an accident)

And if I were to write a “rebuttal” using cherry picked citations and vibes to this would I too get published in CRL? Or is that only for bigoted opinions?

Small colleges have taken the lead -- but they are now joined by 6 of 8 Ivies: Cornell, Penn, Princeton, Yale, Brown, and -- yes -- Harvard.

And, finally, by a handful of big publics: U. of Washington, Wisconsin, Rutgers, SUNY Buffalo and Stony Brook, UC Riverside, UVa, UMD.

The image shows a social media exchange regarding the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form for 2025-26. The first post is from an account called "Department of Government Efficiency" (@DOGE) that simply states "Fixed." This is in response to another post from "Libs of TikTok" (@libsoftiktok) that discusses the FAFSA form's gender options.

The image includes a screenshot of the actual FAFSA form showing the "Student Demographic Information" section, which displays only two gender options: Male and Female. The form includes a notice stating these questions are "Used for Research Purposes Only and Do Not Affect Federal Student Aid Eligibility."

The Libs of TikTok post claims that FAFSA forms were previously listing a "nonbinary" option for gender selection, and expresses approval that the form now only includes male and female options, stating this needed to be changed immediately.

The post is dated February 14, 2025.

The nonbinary gender option has been removed from FAFSA applications.

This is what's called a 'dysaffordance:' nonbinary students will now be forced to select an option that doesn't reflect who they really are, potentially causing gender dysphoria, in order to complete the application.

Librarians aren't going to save us. Librarians aren't superheroes.

They're just people trying to keep largely underfunded and overwhelmed public services going.

Praise is nice; realistic expectations are better; material support is best.

Your local government isn't ready to evacuate disabled people California's fire-prone counties left people to die. Other communities don't have to.

Harrowing but helpful: When it comes to disasters like the Los Angeles fires and evacuations, “The public needs to understand that whatever planning & services are in place that do exist have almost certainly not considered a myriad of disabled people’s needs.”
