The image shows a social media exchange regarding the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form for 2025-26. The first post is from an account called "Department of Government Efficiency" (@DOGE) that simply states "Fixed." This is in response to another post from "Libs of TikTok" (@libsoftiktok) that discusses the FAFSA form's gender options. The image includes a screenshot of the actual FAFSA form showing the "Student Demographic Information" section, which displays only two gender options: Male and Female. The form includes a notice stating these questions are "Used for Research Purposes Only and Do Not Affect Federal Student Aid Eligibility." The Libs of TikTok post claims that FAFSA forms were previously listing a "nonbinary" option for gender selection, and expresses approval that the form now only includes male and female options, stating this needed to be changed immediately. The post is dated February 14, 2025.
The nonbinary gender option has been removed from FAFSA applications.
This is what's called a 'dysaffordance:' nonbinary students will now be forced to select an option that doesn't reflect who they really are, potentially causing gender dysphoria, in order to complete the application.

Librarians aren't going to save us. Librarians aren't superheroes.
They're just people trying to keep largely underfunded and overwhelmed public services going.
Praise is nice; realistic expectations are better; material support is best.
I can’t believe libraries are still doing this! Even after Latanya literally DIED because her library wouldn’t let her use her sick days. Please sign this petition, and remember that no job loves you back. Take care of yourselves out there! bit.ly/sickbankpetition
