Run AI in the browser - faster, cheaper, and private
Everybody's putting AI in their apps. They're stringing APIs together and sending the results down to the browser. But those APIs are expensive, the round trips are long, and there's a lot of data being exposed.
Maybe there's a better way?

I'd love to come down and meet y'all but I am already committed to other events and have travel plans that conflict. Which is a shame as we have an office in Austin and Texas barbecue is the best!

When to use vector search (and when NOT to)
Vector search is cool. Really cool.
And, we're all itching a reason to use it. And there are some really good reasons. But there are some, well, not so good ones as well. Know the difference and don't let vector search become your latest Golden Hammer.

My particular database wasn't that massive coming in at a whopping 72 memes, but this stuff totally scales!

RAG !== vectors.
The R is for retrieval—i.e. get useful stuff. You can do that lots of ways:
📄 Full-text search
🧾 SQL query
⚡ @redis.io key lookup
🧠 Yes, even vector search
It's not how you retrieve—it's what you retrieve.
Get the right data. Feed it to your #LLM. That’s the magic of #RAG.

I'm using a custom MCP server and Claude to generate campaign ideas for TTRPGs. The core idea is to see how well LLMs can do when given external, random, and possibly conflicting constraints.

That's a nice radio. Does all the things and you could always buy an amplifier for it if you wanted to run more power. Honestly, I'd like to get a nice field radio and this might be worth considering.

I paid $1200 for mine a couple of years ago. I haven't had to buy much else since but, ya, it's not exactly a field radio.

Ultimately, you need a cable that can send and receive audio and a means to push the PTT button. You can actually do this with a DigiRig and a Baofeng. Well, maybe not FT8 as that's SSB, but you can do packet radio and APRS that way.

I’ll also add that the Yaesu FT991a does everything and more. Plenty of room to grow with that radio.

Regardless, I'd focus on upgrading your license first. Then you can gear up for a really nice radio that does all the things with all the power. After all, acquiring gear is the best part of a hobby and everybody likes more power!

If you can do voice, you can do FT8 and JS8Call. It's just data encoded in an HF SSB audio signal. I was more curious if your license class allows you to do it or not on 10m. Those modes are optimized for QRP so you could get a lot further with them with 10w.

Can you do digital modes like JS8Call or FT8?
24.05.2025 07:44 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0
Also, what radio do you have for 10m?
22.05.2025 17:57 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0
We could try that. Not sure it’ll work with my current antenna but I have done FT8 into Europe with it and I did get a nice DX antenna that I need to try out.
Of course, right now I’m in Norway…
I do plan to take my rig out with me camping in a few weeks. Maybe try then?
