Synthesis, Isolation, and Reactivity of a Phosphinidene Telluride We describe the synthesis and isolation of a phosphinidene telluride. This species acts as a versatile phosphinidene transfer reagent accompanied by the extrusion of elemental tellurium.

Here's the latest from Goicoechea Group alumnus and master synthetic chemist Chenyang Hu:

Some very elegant double-bond metathesis chemistry allows access to a phosphorus(III) telluride completing our collection of phosphorus-chalcogen double bonds.

Crystal structures of CO bound to a diboryl tin complex on the left, and a tin carbene on the right with the borons migrated to C and O

Crystal structures of CO bound to a diboryl tin complex on the left, and a tin carbene on the right with the borons migrated to C and O

In @science.org this week from Simon Aldridge's group, CO is a sneaky thief: binds unexpectedly to tin at low temp, then steals both its ligands to make a carbene πŸ§ͺ

P4 REDUCTION generally results in multi-nuclear Zintl anions: P8(2-), P4(2-) or P7(3-). Reaction with a soluble Mg(0) complex gave full reduction to P(3-). Latter anion serves as a triple base, a three-fold nucleophile or 3e-reducing agent. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.10
